BCRA's object is to promote the study of caves and associated phenomena. It attains this object by supporting cave & karst research; by encouraging original exploration (both in the UK and on expeditions overseas); by collecting and publishing speleological information; maintaining a library; and organising educational and scientific conferences and meetings.

  • October 2016: BCRA Review: This is a new annual publication. The Review for 2015 is now available online and paper copies have been posted to our Member Clubs (those that receive C&KS on paper) and our international Journal Exchange partners.
  • September 2016: Caves and Karst of the Yorkshire Dales - Volume 2: edited by Tony Waltham and David Lowe, will be published on paper in 2017. Prior to that, most of the individual chapters are now online.
  • March 2016: We are looking for copies of some of our early periodicals. If you have a box of items in your attic that you want to get rid of, please see the posting Donations wanted by the British Caving Library  on our News forum.
  • October 2015: Our new book - Exploring the Limestone Landscapes of the Cumbrian Ring is now available. See Bookshop
  • October 2014: New book from William Pengelly Cave Studies Trust - Exploring the Limestones of South Devon. Available from BCRA. See Bookshop
  • October 2011: BCRA launches a new Cave Archaeology Special Interest Group. CAG Web Site | SIG info
  • September 2012: New BCRA Archives Web Site. See posting on news forum.
  • Publications stock clearance. Volumes of Cave & Karst Science published more than ten years ago are now free of charge, as are all its predecessor publications (Cave Science, Transactions, etc). All issues of Caves & Caving up to number 92 (2002) are now free of charge too; and there are discounts on other items.
  • August 2009: BCRA's Caving Archive has now been moved to the National Geoscience Data Centre at the British Geological Survey. Further information is on the British Caving Library web pages.
