CREG Journal 70 (1-20)
This issue has a cover date of March 2008, but was actually published in July 2008.
Newssheet (3)
2009 Cave Technology Symposium, Loan Equipment, HeyPhone PCBs, Expedition Communications, Publication Dates, Diary Dates.
Tests on the Reception Pattern of Earth Current Antennas (4-8)
Earth current antennas exhibit the familiar figure-of-eight reception pattern. Chris Trayner describes experimental work to determine whether the directionality can be used as a means of combating Loran interference. He concludes that the shallow nulls he observed were due to the effects of multiple Loran beacons at different locations.
500kHz and Cave Radio (9)
A number of countries have given permission for radio amateurs and other interested people to carry out experiments in this part of the spectrum. John Rabson looks at the possibilities for cave radio.
Acoustic Drip Counters for Environmental Monitoring (10-13)
An acoustic method of counting water drips is used to make high-resolution measurements of drip discharge rates in a cave. The fast and accurate response of allows correlation between external environmental factors and drip rates within the cave. Dave Mattey and Chris Collister describe their equipment that is currently installed in St Michaels Cave, Gibraltar.
We Hear (14-15)
News and events - Mike Bedford brings us the latest to impact the world of cave radio and electronics.
Wet and Dry (16)
Our column on waterproofing and environmental protection. Edited by Chris Trayner.
Letters to the Editor (17)
Person to Person Communication on Pitches, Direction Finding as a Sport.
Web Watch (17)
Peter Ludwig offers his characteristically eclectic mix of interesting items from the internet.
Batteries for the 21st Century (18-19)
A new type of nickel metal hydride rechargeable battery with a very low self-discharge and a primary battery using a lithium iron disulphide technology are both available at high-street retail outlets and, asserts David Gibson, they present the best performance of all small batteries and should be used in all caving equipment wherever possible.
The Adventures of GREG (20)
Illustrations by Adrian Higgins with words by Mike Bedford.
