The society's Bulletin has been published bi-annually since 1959. Volume one comprised seven parts. Subsequently each volume has been issued in six parts, each spanning three years. The first 4 volumes were Quarto sized, changing to A4 with volume 5 in 1972. Issue 12 (1) in 1993 was jointly numbered as Issue 13 of the UK Journal of Mines and Minerals. The series title "Mining History" was added from volume 13 in 1996.

After the very first Bulletin, which was edited jointly with D. Price, the editor was M.E. Smith who served in this post until 1964.

From Volume 2 (5) in 1965 the Bulletin editor was T.D. Ford, supported by an editorial board whose members have included R.A. Chatburn, Patricia Lunn, and W.A. Sargeant. Except for the special edition Volume 14 (1) on 'The Dudley Limestone Mines' for which Adrian Pearce and Trevor Ford were credited jointly as General Editors.

Trevor Ford retired as editor in 2000 and from Volume 14 (5) to Volume 16(6) in 2007 the Bulletin editor was Lynn Willies. The current editor is Richard Shaw.

Early issues were duplicated but from Volume 6 the Bulletin has been printed. The paper 'Some terms used by the Lead Miners of Derbyshire' was published a a supplement to Volume 1, consecutively numbered parts appearing at the end of each issue.
