These notes describe the NCA, which has now ceased to exist. Its functions were taken over by the British Caving Association on 1 Jan 2006.

The NCA is the national body representing the interests of cavers in England, Scotland and Wales. It is recognised as the National Governing Body by the Sports Council who give grant-aid to some of its activities. The NCA is a federation of five Regional Caving Councils, four national bodies with specialist interests and over three hundred caving clubs.

The NCA maintains four Special Committees, each of which includes representation of the Constituent bodies. These are responsible for Conservation & Access, Training, Equipment & Techniques, and Legal & Insurance matters.

It administers nationally recognised leadership schemes and publishes a range of educational and informative leaflets. These include a free bimonthly newsletter called SpeleoScene which includes a diary of caving events throughout the country.
